Welcome...

to growing Lumpkin County, Georgia, where cooperative local leadership promotes quality economic progress.

Lumpkin County has been in the business of economic development since the first U.S. Gold Rush in the late 1820s, which brought some 15,000 gold mining prospectors to the area. The gold mining was so productive the U.S. government opened one of the first Federal Branch Mints in the county seat of Dahlonega.

When the “Forty-niners” left for new frontiers during the California Gold Rush, business and industry leaders put down roots and continued to grow the community as a center of commerce, finance, education and agriculture.

Today, the Lumpkin County Development Authority serves as a conduit for economic development, bringing together public and private entities in the common interests of job growth, local investment and business expansion. The Lumpkin County Development Authority is charged with growing Lumpkin County toward a bright, “golden” future.
